The Full Story

Todd and Carmen Kievit spent years in Southern California heavily involved in many aspects of volleyball, (from youth to adult programs).

They worked with one of the largest volleyball clubs in the state, Saddleback VBC, and learned
from Saddleback’s owner/director, George Carey. They are very familiar with highly competitive volleyball and
travel club teams as Carmen’s son played for the men’s Long Beach State feeder program, earning multiple medals
over the years in the Open Division of the USA Boy’s Jr. Olympic National Tournament.
After moving to Oregon, Todd and Carmen became involved in youth volleyball and started a branch of the North
Jackson Volleyball Club, with players from Central Point. After three years of much success and growth under NJVC,
(never losing a 12U tournament in three years), Carmen felt it was time to start working towards building a
volleyball club program that was based on what they learned from their experiences while playing and coaching in
Southern California.
In 2013, with the administrative help of Robin Akpan and Jennifer McMahon, Todd and Carmen formed Spiketown.
Spiketown has become the most successful club in the history of Southern Oregon club volleyball. Spiketown is the
first club, South of Eugene, to have a team qualify for the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship
Tournament - And Spiketown has done it FOUR TIMES, (In 2015-New Orleans, 2017-Minneapolis, 2022-Phoenix, and
2023-Chicago). In 2017, Spiketown earned two bids, (One from the CEVA qualifying tournament, and the second
from winning the American Division in the Far Westerns Qualifying Tournament in Reno).
What is the recipe for Spiketown’s success? Spiketown models itself after many of the most successful clubs in the
country - Compiling the best players from different schools around the area. Spiketown believes this model
improves each player as a whole, while they make new friends and experience new coaching techniques. Success
also comes from hiring and training the best coaches who have extensive playing and coaching experience.
To offer the best coaching and training, Todd and Carmen have traveled across the country to some of the best
coaching clinics available. Also, Spiketown has brought in an Olympic player and coach, (Sue Woodstra), an
international level player, (Cassie Strickland), and Division-1 college coaches to train our coaches and work with our players.
Spiketown provides information and support for student athletes to start/continue the college recruitment process.
Spiketown travel teams play in out-of-town tournaments offering players the opportunity to be seen by numerous
college scouts.
Several Spiketown players have earned collegiate volleyball scholarships from colleges all over the country.
These colleges include Oregon State University (Corvallis, OR) / Southern Oregon University (Ashland, OR) / Oregon
institute of Technology (Klamath Falls, OR) / Corban University (Salem, OR) / Eastern Washington University
(Cheney, WA) / University of Mary (Bismark, ND) / Northwest Nazarene University (Nampa, ID) / Olivet Nazarene
University (Bourbonnais, IL) / Park University (Gilbert, AZ) / Cal Poly San Luis Obispo / And many more at
community colleges.
Whether your daughter would like to play locally or travel, Spiketown believes in creating a culture that builds
character, a good work ethic and being a good teammate while developing the best fundamental skills in a fun,
positive atmosphere.
